Installing the B&M Edge Racing Shifter
This B&M Edge Racing Shifter
has been designed to work on all 1995 thru 1998 Dodge/Plymouth Neons.
It has been engineered to greatly reduce shift throw and improve shifter
feel. The Edge Racing Shifter can easily be installed in less than an hour
by carefully following the instructions.
B&M recommends that you
read through the instructions completely before beginning the installation,
so you can familiarize yourself with the installation procedure and tools
required. Check the tool list at the end of these instructions
for the tools required.
When installing your Edge Racing
Shifter there is another B&M product you may wish to consider:

DISASSEMBLY
| STEP 1. |
Remove the stock shift knob by lifting "ears" and pulling straight up.
Using a phillips screwdriver, remove the two screws by the cup holders
and the four screws inside the center console.

|
| STEP 2. |
Raise the emergency brake as high as possible and carefully pull
the console out, along with the shift boot.
I ended up breaking one of the three fasteners that hold the shifter boot. I simply
replaced them all with standard 6mm "christmas tree" type fasteners.
|
| STEP 3. |
Remove the cable at the lower end of the stock shift lever by
inserting a flat blade screwdriver between the cable bushing and shift lever
and prying the bushing off. |

|
| STEP 4. |
Remove the E-clip that retains the upper spring assembly.
Carefully pull the spring assembly out, remembering which way the spring
goes back in. |

|
| STEP 5. |
Remove the three nuts from the top of the shifter assembly
and pull shifter out. |
Pic7
|
| STEP 6. |
Push shifter out of the top assembly (note alignment pin) and
carefully remove the plastic piece from the stock shift lever. |

ASSEMBLY
| STEP 7. |
Using the supplied
grease, lubricate the ball portion of the Edge Racing Shifter. Install the
plastic piece removed in Step 6 (notch pointing down) and push back into
the top assembly.
Sorry, but for some reason
I didn't take a good enough picture of this step...
|
|
| STEP 8. |
Place the shifter assembly back onto the shifter mount
and tighten the three nuts.
|
Pic10 |
| STEP 9. |
Push the supplied shoulder bolt through the shifter cable
bushing and screw into the lower portion of the Edge Racing Shifter.
Install lock nut onto bolt and tighten.
I installed the shifter linkage on the left side of the
shifter because the thought of bending the bracket (as Mopar Action recommended) did not appeal to me. This also
removes the need to drill out the rubber bushing for the bolt. It is a bit harder to install the linkage this
way but it is worth it. I've driven for over 5000 miles and two autocrosses with my shifter like this and I have
had absolutely no shifting problems.

| STEP 10. |
Replace the spring bracket assembly. Snap E-clip back
on the spring assembly shaft. Make sure the spring goes back in the
same way it came out. |

|
| STEP 11. |
Reassemble the center console.
Note how far the parking brake is pulled up in Pic15. That is
approximatly how far it has to be to remove the center console.
|
Pic15 |
| STEP 12. |
Install shift knob.
Note: The factory shift knob will not
fit on the Edge Racing Shifter - you must install an aftermarket knob.
I chose to install a Momo Raceair Leater shift knob. |
