"B.A.N.E.O.N. "means" Bay Area NEON Enthusiasts" BANEON currently has over 80 members from all areas of California, from Eureka to Los Angeles, plus some members from other states.

Four Neon enthusiasts (Rex Scates, Shaikh Ahmad, James Glave, and Edward Mitchell) founded BANEON in late 1995. The four of us met on the original Neon Mailing list started and run by Matt Wiggins in early 1995. We, the "Founding Four" all had delightfully different backgrounds and were at contrasting points in our lives: from single struggling students to hard-working married professionals, from performance nuts looking to the aftermarket to make their Neon faster and handle better to commuters content to enjoy the impressive 'out of the box' performance and value that the Neon offers.

In summer of '96, James Glave was able to secure a Majordomo server for us to start the baneon@scarletfire.com mailing list, our vital communications link. Our local N.E.O.N. Internet mailing list soon spawned clubs in other parts of the country: NJNE (New Jersey Neon Enthusiasts), OVNE (Ohio Valley Neon Enthusiasts), and a group in Texas I can't for the life of me remember the name of. =)

The club's purpose was intentionally made simple and has remained so: to exchange Neon-related ideas, help each other solve problems, and gather together off-line to share our love of America's best all-around sports economy car.
